Itanagar: The Arunachal Pradesh government has launched its first fleet of electric buses, marking a significant stride towards promoting greener and more sustainable mobility across the state.
This initiative underscores the state government’s commitment to fostering environmentally friendly transportation across the state.
Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein on Thursday (June 5) flagged off a fleet of electric buses that will operate will operate on key routes—Lobi Secretariat, Ganga Market and Chimpu.
Taking to X, Chief Minister Pema Khandu said, “Arunachal Pradesh is making strides towards sustainability with the introduction of 10 new #ElectricBuses on key routes in Itanagar.”
“This initiative aims to cut down emissions, modernize urban transport, and promote cleaner, greener mobility for all residents. A meaningful step towards a smarter and healthier future,” he added.
Introduced by the Department of Transport, the buses were flagged off on the occasion of World Environment Day (WED) to provide eco-friendly transportation to the citizens.
The electric buses will soon expand to key towns, including Namsai, Tezu, Pasighat, and Roing.

“Celebrating green milestones on #WorldEnvironmentDay2025 as Arunachal takes bold steps toward sustainability, from curbing plastic pollution through community-led efforts to rolling out electric buses that promote eco-friendly public transport,” Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein said.
A collective stride towards a cleaner, greener future for all, Mein said.
