ITANAGAR: The Gauhati High Court’s Itanagar bench has ordered the Arunachal Pradesh government to immediately repair the deteriorating road linking Itanagar, Jullang, Naharlagun, and Nirjuli.
The court, responding to a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by advocates Doge Lona and Vijay Jamoh, expressed grave concern over the road’s dilapidated condition, emphasizing that the project’s deadline had been missed by more than three years.
The petitioners submitted compelling evidence, including photographs, of the road’s deplorable condition.
The High Court has ordered the state’s Public Works Department (PWD) to submit a detailed report on the road project’s progress within four weeks.
The court has also instructed the PWD to ensure the road is passable for the public till the submission of the report.
The PIL seeks the construction of a four-lane highway between Itanagar and Banderdewa under the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) mode.
