Itanagar: In a major crackdown on counterfeit currency, four people have been arrested in Arunachal Pradesh’s Naharlagun after police seized fake notes with a total face value of Rs 1.12 lakh from their possession, a senior officer said on Saturday.
The investigation began on December 2, when two individuals allegedly attempted to purchase groceries in the Polo Colony area using fake Rs 500 notes. When confronted by the shopkeeper, the duo fled, prompting police action.
Naharlagun Superintendent of Police Nyelam Nega said one accused from Gohpur in Itanagar was first arrested on the basis of intelligence inputs. Acting on his lead, a police team—under the supervision of SDPO Rishi Longdo—conducted raids at multiple locations.
During the operation, another suspect from Amba in Doimukh was apprehended, followed by the arrest of two alleged suppliers from Assam.

Nega urged the public to remain alert and report any suspicious currency, especially during the ongoing local body elections.
