Itanagar: A devastating fire ravaged Hayuliang market in Arunachal Pradesh’s Anjaw district on Thursday, destroying at least 15 shops, according to local authorities.
The blaze, which broke out around 4:30 am, quickly spread through the market—one of the oldest in the border district—completely reducing the wooden shops to ashes.
Anjaw Superintendent of Police (SP), Rike Kamsi, reported that the fire spread rapidly, but the Army lent crucial assistance in preventing it from advancing further.
Fortunately, no casualties were reported, Kamsi added.
Since Hayuliang does not have a fire station, fire-fighting teams had to be dispatched from Hawai, the district headquarters, which is located over 54 kilometers away.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and local authorities have begun assessing the extent of the damage, with the district’s Disaster Management Officer (DDMO) involved in the process.
Anjaw’s Deputy Commissioner, Millo Kojin, confirmed that a loss assessment is ongoing and interim relief measures have been provided to the affected shopkeepers.
State Women and Child Development Minister Dasanglu Pul, who represents the district, has pledged full support and assistance to those impacted by the disaster.
