Itanagar: The Arunachal Pradesh Cabinet on Monday approved the introduction of a common examination scheme for direct recruitment to the posts of assistant and junior engineers in the state.

The decision, taken during a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pema Khandu, aims to streamline the recruitment process and ensure uniformity across departments.

The Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC), in consultation with relevant departments, will finalise the syllabus for the new exam pattern.

To accommodate candidates impacted by recruitment delays or cancelled vacancy notices, the Cabinet also approved a one-time relaxation in the upper age limit, applicable to posts affected by notifications issued prior to 2024.

In a separate decision, the Cabinet approved the Arunachal Pradesh Police Service (4th Amendment) Rules, 2025, revising the 1989 APPS Rules.

The amendment is intended to enhance cadre management, streamline promotions, and optimize the police rank structure.

The Cabinet also cleared the creation of 280 new posts in the Public Health Engineering and Water Supply Department.

The move is expected to improve departmental efficiency, address long-pending staff demands, and open up opportunities for new recruitment.

Additionally, the Finance, Planning, and Investment Department presented a memorandum to be submitted to the 16th Finance Commission, which was approved after Cabinet deliberation.
