ITANAGAR: The Chakma Displaced Family Justice Demand Committee (CDFJDC) has escalated its call for justice amid accusations of corruption in the rehabilitation funds for families displaced by the Hollongi airport project.
In a memorandum submitted to Governor KT Parnaik, the committee has urged swift action to investigate delays in the submission of crucial technical reports.
The memorandum highlighted the failure of the deputy commissioner of Papum Pare district to submit a report from the technical board, despite multiple reminders from the investigating officer.
Karuna Sindhu Chakma, President of CDFJDC, expressed concern over the prolonged delays favouring the alleged accused.
“The systematic delay in completing technical examinations only benefits those accused of corruption and misappropriation,” Chakma stated.
The memorandum urged Governor Parnaik to instruct the chief vigilance officer to intervene promptly and ensure accountability in the Hollongi airport rehabilitation “scam”.
As the investigation unfolds, the committee remains steadfast in its pursuit of justice for the displaced Chakma families affected by the alleged mismanagement of public funds.
Earlier, the Special Investigation Cell (SIC) initiated an FIR following allegations of corruption and criminal misappropriation amounting to Rs 27.51 crores allocated for the rehabilitation and resettlement of 156 Chakma families displaced by the airport project.
“The state government sanctioned Rs 27.51 crores for their rehabilitation, but these funds have allegedly been misappropriated,” the committee told the press on Monday.
The CDFJDC highlighted that despite complaints filed against key office bearers of the Chakma Rehabilitation and Resettlement Committee in March 2021, delays in technical assessments have hindered legal proceedings.
A status report submitted to the Gauhati High Court (Itanagar bench) in PIL No 17/2021 confirmed the systematic delays in submitting critical technical examination reports.
The developments underscore growing public scrutiny and demands for transparency in major infrastructure projects impacting minority communities across Arunachal Pradesh.
