Itanagar: Two labourers abducted by militants in Arunachal Pradesh’s Tirap district were rescued on Sunday, officials said, following a coordinated security operation.
The victims, engaged in road construction work in Lahu village under Dadam circle, were reportedly kidnapped around 4 pm on Saturday by seven to eight armed members of the NSCN.
Acting on intelligence inputs, security forces laid traps at Ngisa K Nokna and Nginnu K Nokna to intercept the insurgents.
As there was no movement overnight, a search operation began at first light on Sunday.
Around 5.50 am, one of the security columns came under fire from the militants.

Assam Rifles personnel responded with calibrated small arms and mortar fire, prioritising the safety of the kidnapped labourers.
Following the ensuing encounter and area search, both labourers were safely rescued.
Assam Rifles officials said the operation underscores their commitment to the safety and security of civilians in the region.
The security operation is reported to still be ongoing in Tirap district.
