ITANAGAR: Students with a penchant for language learning will have the opportunity to excel in mastering Japanese at Arunachal Pradesh’s Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) as the state’s oldest university entered into a strategic partnership with Vivekananda Kendra, Kanyakumari.

The two renowned institutions signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Thursday to enhance the teaching and learning of the Japanese language.

The primary highlight of this collaboration is the launch of a six-month certificate course in Basic Japanese Language. The curriculum promises a comprehensive understanding, covering grammar and essential scripts—Hiragana, Katakana, and Kanji. Aimed at instilling both conversational prowess and meticulous writing acumen in students, this course is expected to bridge the linguistic gap for many aspiring learners.

The signing ceremony was graced by Prof Ashan Riddi, the Director of the Institute of Distance Education at RGU, and Bhanudas Dhakras, the General Secretary of Vivekananda Kendra, Kanyakumari as the signatories to this pivotal agreement.

Emphasising the collaboration’s broader vision, RGU vice-chancellor, Prof Saket Kushwaha, hailed the MoU as an instrumental step in augmenting education, rural upliftment, and empowerment endeavours. Prof Kushwaha expressed optimism about the potential outcomes, attributing his confidence to the demonstrated capabilities of Vivekananda Kendra.

Central to this partnership is the shared commitment to facilitating teaching, research, and fostering inter-institutional cooperation. While Japanese language education remains the focal point, the underpinning objective is broader – to stimulate academic growth and cultural exchange for the mutual benefit of both institutions.

Vivekananda Kendra will shoulder significant responsibilities in this venture, ensuring the provision of syllabi, effective course management, and the requisite instructional staff for the Japanese language initiative.

Highlighting the global implications of mastering the Japanese language, Prof Riddi emphasised its critical importance in today’s competitive job market, positioning it as not just a cultural but also a career-oriented pursuit.
