Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh has reported its first confirmed case of COVID-19 in the latest wave of infections, according to state health officials.
State Surveillance Officer Dr. Lobsang Jampa confirmed on Wednesday that a 34-year-old pregnant woman and her 53-year-old mother have tested positive for the virus via RT-PCR tests conducted on Tuesday.
The younger woman had initially tested positive through a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) a day earlier, after reporting symptoms including fever and a mild cough.
She had recently returned to Itanagar from Bengaluru on May 13, prompting health authorities to carry out confirmatory testing.
While the mother remains asymptomatic, the pregnant woman is currently receiving treatment at a local hospital. Her mother has been placed in home isolation as a precaution.
Dr. Jampa urged the public to remain calm, emphasising that the current strain appears to be less severe than previous variants.

“We are actively monitoring the situation and implementing necessary measures to contain any potential spread,” he said.
