Itanagar: A promising Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) athlete from Arunachal Pradesh, Gyamar Tana, has been officially selected to represent India at the upcoming Global Association of Mixed Martial Arts (GAMMA) World Championship 2025.
The prestigious tournament is scheduled to take place in São Paulo, Brazil, from June 16 to 22.
The championship, organized by GAMMA, the international governing body for amateur MMA, will bring together athletes from over 80 countries, competing across various weight divisions.
Hailing from Nyapin in Arunachal Pradesh’s Kurung Kumey district, the young athlete expressed happiness and pride over the opportunity to represent the country on an international platform.
He said that he was deeply honoured to wear the Indian colours at such a prestigious event.
Tana’s participation in the international event highlights the growing interest and talent in MMA within the state.
Founded in 2018 and headquartered in the Netherlands, the Global Association of Mixed Martial Arts aims to promote the sport’s development globally. Its mission is to develop, promote, and lead mixed martial arts to global recognition as the pinnacle of combat sports.

The organization prioritizes safety, fair play, and the growth of MMA as a structured amateur sport.
Besides Gyamar Tana, other notable MMA athletes from Arunachal Pradesh include Hosam Londa and Monjit Yein. Monjit Yein recently won his professional MMA debut at the ONE Championship.
