Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh’s social worker Jumde Yomgam Gamlin has been honoured with the prestigious Padma Shri award for her remarkable contributions to the field of healthcare, significantly improving the lives of many.
The conferment of the award on Gamlin was announced on Saturday.
Expressing her gratitude, Gamlin said, “I feel elated to receive the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award. I thank the state government and the Centre for recognizing my work.”
She said that good and honest efforts never go unnoticed and would eventually be rewarded.
Gamlin also emphasized that dedication and commitment were essential qualities for a social worker.
Gamlin, the chairperson of the NGO “Mother’s Vision” based in Aalo, West Siang district, was also the recipient of the Bharat Vibhushan Puruskar in November 2024.
She has previously been honored with a state award.
The Mother’s Vision, established in 2013, started fighting against drug addiction and alcoholism. The NGO later began conducting awareness campaigns, workshops, counselling sessions, and outreach activities.
The NGO has successfully treated over 700 individuals battling addiction.
Gamlin emphasized that addressing drug addiction is a complex and multifaceted challenge, requiring a concerted effort from individuals, families, government agencies, and non-governmental organizations.
“Early prevention, comprehensive treatment, and ongoing support are keys to breaking the cycle of addiction,” she said.
Gamlin’s work in rehabilitation and community outreach has had a profound and positive impact on the region, helping countless individuals recover and rebuild their lives.
In addition to her social work, Gamlin serves as a Zila Parishad member for Yomcha in the district.

Gamlin’s unwavering leadership and tireless efforts have established the NGO as a symbol of hope in the battle against addiction in Arunachal Pradesh.
The Padma Awards are one of the highest civilian honours of India announced annually on the eve of Republic Day.
