Itanagar: In a tragic incident, two persons were trampled to death in an attack by a herd of wild elephants at Namsang village in Arunachal Pradesh’s Tirap district, police said.
The incident occurred on Monday night. The deceased have been identified as Tanen Nocte (46) and Nanthok Hodong (45).
Upon receiving information, a team of officials, including the range forest officer, medical personnel, and the police, rushed to the spot.
Forests and Environment Minister Wangki Lowang, who also serves as the local MLA, visited the village on Tuesday to assess the situation. He was accompanied by Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) B. Tawsik.
This marks the fourth human fatality due to wild elephant attacks in the Deomali area this year, highlighting the growing human-elephant conflict in the region.
Earlier, former MLA Kapchen Rajmukar also lost his life in a similar incident.
