Itanagar: The Tai Khamti language will soon be introduced as a third language in all government and private schools as well as Buddhist monasteries (Buddha Viharas) in Arunachal Pradesh’s Namsai district.

The decision was taken during a development meeting, chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, held at the mini Secretariat in Arunachal Pradesh‘s Namsai district on July 4.

Key issues concerning the development and cultural preservation of the district were deliberated during the meeting.

“An action plan was finalized to introduce Tai Khamti language teaching as third language in government and private schools, as well as in Buddha Viharas across the district. The language will be taught from primary to secondary level starting 16th of August 2025,” Dy CM Chowna Mein posted on X.

Mein asked the DC to ensure its introduction in all private institutions.

The Tai Khamti Heritage & Literary Society (TKHLS) has been given the responsibility to print primer for the primary level and impart local language training to the teachers.

“The loss of a language often leads to the erosion of rituals, traditions, and cultural identity, making its preservation a top priority,” he said.

The meeting also resolved to observe ‘Nadi Utsav’ on July 8. Mein said, “We also decided to observe ‘Nadi Utsav’ on 8th July, during which fish fingerlings will be released in major streams to help restore freshwater fish populations. A decision was also taken to adopt one village in each constituency to be developed as a model for the cleanliest village.”

In response to the growing drug menace, the district administration has also planned to enforce strong preventive and corrective measures.
