Itanagar: The Arunachal Pradesh government has initiated a statewide operation to identify and deport illegal Bangladeshi immigrants, following fresh directives from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), officials confirmed on Thursday.

All district administrations have been instructed to set up dedicated District Task Forces (DTFs) to detect undocumented individuals and enforce provisions of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system with immediate effect.

The decision was finalized during a high-level meeting held on Wednesday, chaired by Mutchu Mithi, Advisor to the Home Minister, and Director General of Police Anand Mohan.

The meeting was attended by senior law enforcement officials, including inspector generals and superintendents of police from across the state.

“Each district will form a task force to carry out systematic detection of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants and ensure robust enforcement of the ILP regime,” Mithi said following the meeting.

The move comes in the wake of a 30-day deadline issued by the MHA last month, directing all states and Union Territories to verify the identities and legal status of individuals suspected to be illegal immigrants from Bangladesh and Myanmar.

Those unable to furnish valid documentation will face detention and deportation, according to the ministry’s instructions.

The MHA has also urged state governments to exercise their full statutory authority in identifying, detaining, and deporting such individuals. Similar directives have been extended to the Border Security Force (BSF) and Assam Rifles, who are responsible for securing India’s borders with Bangladesh and Myanmar.

Authorities in Arunachal Pradesh are expected to begin ground-level operations within days, as the government intensifies its efforts to uphold national security and regulatory compliance.
