Itanagar: Techi Sonu, a para-athlete from Arunachal Pradesh, has been selected by the Paralympic Committee of India (PCI) to represent India at the prestigious Sharjah 2025 International Para Athletics Championship.
Hosted by Althiqah Club for the Disabled, the championship will be held from February 2 to February 4 in Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
He has brought immense pride to Arunachal Pradesh through his outstanding achievements in state, zonal, and national events.
He won Gold Medals in the State Level Arm Wrestling Championship 2016 at Itanagar and Mr. Arunachal Bodybuilding Championship 2019 at Roing.
He won Gold at the 2020 North India Powerlifting Championship in Guwahati, Assam.
The para-athlete bagged Bronze in the 40 kg weight category in Mr India National Divyang Bodybuilding Championship 2019 at Meerut in Uttar Pradesh.
He won Silver in the shot put under the F-44 category in the National Para Athletics Championship 2021 at Bengaluru in Karnataka.
He was a Bronze Medalist at the Eastern India Strength Lifting Championship 2020 held in Geyzing, Sikkim.
Techi Sonu won Silver in the Senior Men’s 74 kg category at the 2021 National Para Powerlifting Championship held in Bangalore, Karnataka.
His participation marks a historic achievement for Arunachal Pradesh, as he is the first Para Athlete from the state to compete at an International Para Athletics event.

He founded para-sports in Arunachal Pradesh, opening doors for many state para-athletes when para-sports were not recognized and practiced in the state.
He played a crucial role in creating an environment where the state’s para-athletes could finally showcase their hidden talents in sports and other activities.
