Itanagar: Over 100 first-year MBBS students at Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (TRIHMS) received self-defense training during an awareness programme on Thursday.
The self-defence awareness programme, organized in collaboration with the Capital Police and the Arunachal Pradesh Police Sports Control Board, aimed to enhance the safety and security awareness of the newly enrolled medical students.
The programme was led by Superintendent of Police Itanagar Capital Complex Rohit Rajbir Singh and his team, as part of a broader initiative to promote personal safety among students.
SP Singh encouraged future doctors to be vigilant, prepared, and active in promoting community safety.
He introduced “Ane’s Home,” a new project at the Women Police Station in Itanagar, providing a safe space for victims of sexual and domestic abuse.
Inspector Rina Sonam, Officer-in-Charge of the Women Police Station, Itanagar, provided a presentation on women and child safety in the district. She highlighted the Women Police Station’s role in protecting vulnerable groups and urged students to report incidents of harassment or abuse, assuring them of the police’s prompt response.
A significant initiative was the installation of Police Ajin Complaint Boxes on the TRIHMS campus. These boxes allow students to report bullying or abuse directly to the Women Police Station for immediate action.
