Itanagar: In a remarkable achievement for Indian mountaineering, Kabak Yano from Arunachal Pradesh successfully summited Mt Elbrus, the highest peak in Europe and Russia, on August 16 at 5:20 am local time.
Standing at a towering height of 18,510 feet in the Caucasus mountain range of southwestern Russia, Mt Elbrus is a dormant stratovolcano and one of the world’s most iconic climbing destinations. The ascent is considered a significant challenge due to its extreme weather conditions and high-altitude terrain.
Yano’s accomplishment marks another milestone in her ambitious Seven Summits Challenge, which involves conquering the highest mountain on each of the seven continents.
With this climb, she adds Europe to her growing list of achievements and moves closer to completing one of the most prestigious goals in the mountaineering world.
Arunachal Pradesh Governor KT Parnaik, who had flagged off Yano on July 28 for her expedition, lauded her success.
