Itanagar: In a major clampdown on drug trafficking, a man was arrested with cannabis worth Rs 2 lakh near Itanagar in Arunachal Pradesh, police said on Saturday.
According to police, the arrest was made on Friday following a specific tip-off about the movement of a suspected peddler in the Chandranagar area.
During the inspection, officers conducted a thorough search of the vehicle. The search of the scooter’s boot space led to the recovery of four polythene bags containing approximately 2.2 kg of cannabis.
Police also seized Rs 600 in cash from the accused, Superintendent of Police (SP) Jummar Basar said.
The rider, identified as Santosh Biswas, was arrested, he said.
A case has been registered under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act.

Police said further investigation is underway to identify the source of the contraband and determine whether the accused is linked to a larger network involved in drug trafficking.
Authorities added that the operation is part of an ongoing crackdown on illegal narcotics in the region, with intensified checks being carried out to curb the drug menace.
