Itanagar: The Arunachal Pradesh government has decided to upgrade the World War-II Memorial Museum at Jairampur in Changlang district.
The museum is located at the historical Stilwell Road, a strategic World War II route.
Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein on Thursday chaired a key meeting on the upgrade of the World War-II Memorial Museum at Jairampur, emphasising the region’s importance in the Burma Campaign.
Highlighting the historical significance of the Pangsau Pass and the Stilwell Road, he said, “The historic Pangsau Pass and the legendary Stilwell Road bear deep imprints of World War II, a time when brave souls from our indigenous Singpho, Khamti, Adi, Nocte, Mishmi, and Naga communities valiantly contributed as soldiers and porters during the Burma Campaign.”
The deputy chief minister said the government is committed to transforming this heritage site into a premier historical and tourism destination, featuring rare wartime artefacts, an exclusive tribal gallery, and immersive exhibits that narrate untold stories of courage and sacrifice.
“We will commemorate the 80th year of World War II during the upcoming Pangsau Pass Winter Festival with special events such as a Willy Jeep Rally from Pasighat to Pangsau Pass and a Super Car Rally, to draw attention to this vital chapter in our shared history,” Mein stated.

A dedicated committee has been constituted under the chairmanship of Research Minister Dasanglu Pul, with the DCM as the chief adviser, and MLAs Laisam Simai and Oken Tayeng as advisers, besides Research Secretary BJ Duai as member secretary.
Lt Col TC Tayum made a detailed presentation on the artefacts collected so far for the museum.
