Itanagar: The Arunachal Pradesh government has initiated a thorough investigation into the tragic incident at St. Alphonsa School in Naharlagun that claimed the lives of three students and left two others critically injured.
The incident occurred around 9 am on Saturday when an overhead water tank collapsed on the students while they were playing in the schoolyard during school hours.
Expressing condolences, CM Pema Khandu said, “Deeply saddened by the tragic incident at St. Alphonsa School, Naharlagun, which claimed the lives of three young students and left two others critically injured. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families during this unimaginable loss.”

“The administration has initiated a thorough investigation, and those responsible will be held accountable. Ex gratia support for the families of the deceased and assistance for the injured will be provided as per norms,” he said.
The chief minister stated, “We are committed to ensuring justice and extending all possible support. Praying for the speedy recovery of the injured and strength to the grieving families in this difficult time.”
The police arrested the school building owner, principal and four wardens.
The deceased were identified as Ekam Bagang, Rei Dol and Marsu Dubi, all Class 9 students. The injured, Toko Dolum (Class 8) and Licha Butum (Class 6) were admitted at the Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences at Naharlagun.

Sub-divisional police officer Rishi Longdo said that a case has been registered based on two complaints.
“It is a case of negligence and culpable homicide not amounting to murder. The parents of the students visited the site of the mishap. They want the case to be investigated properly. They are cooperating with us,” Longdo said.
