Itanagar: Former Pasighat (East) legislator Kaling Moyong has been appointed as the new state president of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Arunachal Pradesh unit.
He was elected to the post unopposed. The announcement was made on January 18 following deliberations among the party’s senior leadership.
The decision to appoint Moyong was finalized after a series of high-level meetings in Itanagar and Delhi.
Prominent leaders, including Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, and Assam Minister Ashok Singhal, BJP’s Arunachal Pradesh in-charge, played key roles in the selection process.
Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, who also served as Assam’s former chief minister, was tasked by the party’s high command to act as the returning officer overseeing the election and selection process.
Taking to X, Chief Minister Pema Khandu said, “Congratulations to Shri @moyong_kaling Ji on being unanimously elected as the State President of @BJP4Arunachal.”

“Wishing Shri Moyong ji a successful tenure and hoping the party grows stronger and soars to greater heights under his able leadership,” Khandu added.
Moyong succeeds Biyuram Wahge as the Arunachal Pradesh BJP president.

He had represented the Pasighat East constituency from 2014-2024. He was defeated by Tapi Darang of the National Peoples’ Party (NPP) in the 2024 assembly elections.
His appointment as BJP chief is expected to significantly enhance the party’s presence and influence within the state.
