Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein has inaugurated the 1894 Mirem Batum Lingkang War Memorial at Adi Pasi in Upper Siang district.
The memorial honours the bravery of Adi warriors from Pasi Village, who defended their homeland against a British punitive expedition during the 3rd Anglo-Abor War in 1893-94.
Speaking at the event on Wednesday, Mein described the occasion as historic and emotional, honouring the unsung heroes who resisted colonial rule.
“Today, at Mirem Batum in Adi Pasi, I had the honor of inaugurating the 1894 Mirem Batum Lingkang War Memorial – a tribute to the bravery, resilience, and tactical ingenuity of the Adis of Pasi Village during the 3rd Anglo-Abor War of 1893-94,” Mein said.

The deputy chief minister said, “This historic battle stands as a testimony to the unity and indomitable spirit of our ancestors, who successfully repelled a British punitive expedition using strategic stone barricades and guerrilla warfare.”
He stated that the memorial is not just a monument but a symbol of pride, connecting the people of Arunachal Pradesh with rich heritage and the role forefathers played in India’s resistance against colonial rule.
It ensures that their courage continues to inspire future generations, he added.
He praised the local community for constructing the memorial through their contributions.
Mein highlighted the need to preserve Arunachal Pradesh’s cultural heritage and indigenous traditions while ensuring sustainable development.
He urged the people to take pride in their heritage and safeguard their customs for future generations.
