Itanagar: A drone port on the rooftop of the Tomo Riba Institute of Health & Medical Sciences (TRIHMS) in Arunachal Pradesh’s Nagarlagun was inaugurated on Tuesday (July 1), marking a significant step towards improving emergency medical deliveries in the state.

The facility, developed by Arunachal Pradesh Space Application Centre (APSAC), is expected to revolutionise emergency medical services in the state.

The drone port was inaugurated by TRIHMS Director Dr. Moji Jini in the presence of Chief Medical Superintendent Dr. D. Raina, Arunachal Pradesh Space Application Centre (APSAC) Director Dr. H. Dutta, among others.

The drone port is a key initiative by APSAC to establish a network of drone facilities across the state. These ports are designed to operate and host various types of drones, including Vertical Take-off and Landing (VTOL) and Short Take-off and Landing (STOL) aircraft. Each facility will include essential infrastructure for storing and maintaining the drones.

During the inauguration, Dr. Jini lauded the APSAC team, highlighting the drone port’s potential to ensure the timely delivery of critical medical supplies.

He specifically mentioned its role in providing medicines, anti-venom, and human organs to remote parts of the state during emergencies, which could be life-saving.

“It is a major milestone in strengthening healthcare access for the people of Arunachal Pradesh,” he added.

The initiative is part of a broader vision to expand drone infrastructure across the state under programmes such as “Medicine from the Sky”, which aims to bridge the last-mile connectivity gap in healthcare.
