Itanagar: The decomposed body of a woman was recovered from a house near Power House in the Chimpu I area on the outskirts of Arunachal Pradesh’s Itanagar, police said on Wednesday.
Itanagar Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Kengo Dirchi said the police control room received information around 6:20 pm on Tuesday about a body inside a house.
Upon reaching the site, the police team found the woman’s body buried beneath the kitchen floor of a house owned by 80-year-old Kamal Pradhan, who has been missing for a week.
According to police, the house had remained locked during this period. Locals noticed a foul smell and informed the landlord, who subsequently alerted the police.
The SDPO said an executive magistrate visited the spot, the scene of the crime was videographed, and the area was secured.
The police exhumed the body on Wednesday in the presence of a magistrate, the SDPO said.
Forensic experts were requisitioned to assist with the investigation, the officer said.
“The possibility of foul play cannot be ruled out. Further clarity will come after the post-mortem examination,” SDPO Dirchi said.
