Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh’s celebrated musician David Angu has been conferred with the International Folk Music Award at the 10th India International Influencer Awards (IIIA).
The event was held in Dubai on September 21.
Congratulating the artiste, Chief Minister Pema Khandu wrote, “Folk music is the soul of a community, carrying its stories, traditions, and identity across generations. David Angu, with his mesmerizing voice, guitar, and compositions, has brought Arunachal’s rich folk heritage to the world stage.”
The chief minister stated, “His India International Influencer Award (IIIA) is a proud recognition of his efforts to preserve, celebrate, and globalize our cultural legacy.”
Hailing from Aalo, Angu is a versatile singer, guitarist, composer, and producer, known for blending rock influences with indigenous folk traditions in his musical journey.
Growing up in a music-loving family, he drew early inspiration from legendary rock bands like Skid Row, Guns N’ Roses, and Iron Maiden, influences that shaped his distinctive vocal and guitar style.
Angu first made his mark with the rock band ‘Soul of Phoenix’ before turning his attention to the rich folk heritage of Arunachal Pradesh.
His ongoing project, David Angu & The Tribe, reinterprets the traditional songs of the Tani tribes, blending them seamlessly with contemporary sounds.
Reacting to the honour, Angu said, “This recognition has reignited my passion. I’m eager to create more music — the journey has only just begun.”
