ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein has reaffirmed the state government’s unwavering support for Goods and Services Tax (GST) reforms, underscoring their significance in driving economic growth and simplifying compliance for businesses and taxpayers.
Speaking at the 55th GST Council meeting held in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, Mein, who also holds the Finance portfolio, highlighted the need for a balanced and inclusive GST framework tailored to the unique requirements of Arunachal Pradesh.
“Arunachal Pradesh remains steadfast in its commitment to GST reforms that promote simplicity, fairness, and inclusivity. These reforms align with our vision to enhance ease of doing business and accelerate development in the state,” Mein said.
The GST Council meeting, chaired by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, deliberated on a range of proposals aimed at strengthening the GST framework and fostering economic activity nationwide.
Discussions included proposed amendments to improve the legal structure of GST, simplify rate structures for goods and services, and bolster compliance mechanisms.
The council also prioritised enhancing the grievance redressal system to provide better support to taxpayers.

Among the key agenda items were proposals to expand GST exemptions for critical sectors, including healthcare, life insurance, and research activities that benefit the public.
The council also reviewed procedural updates for the operationalisation of GST Appellate Tribunals (GSTAT) to streamline dispute resolution.
Additionally, measures to ensure timely and equitable settlements of Integrated GST (IGST) revenues to states were discussed, aiming to strengthen fiscal stability.

Deputy Chief Minister Mein expressed his support for the council’s recommendations and updates from previous meetings, reaffirming the state’s dedication to adopting GST reforms that align with Arunachal Pradesh’s developmental priorities.
The meeting reflected a collaborative effort to enhance the GST framework, making it more inclusive and efficient for stakeholders across the country.
