Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Tuesday unveiled a T-55 Russian-made tank at the World War II Cemetery at Jairampur in Changlang district.

Inducted into the Indian Army in 1965, this tank played a crucial role in the nation’s armoured warfare history.

Sharing the unveiling on social media, CM Pema Khandu wrote, “Though now decommissioned, it stands as a testament to the bravery and dedication of our soldiers.”

Four tanks are already displayed in Arunachal Pradesh, with a total of eight planned across the state.

“Kudos to Lt. Col. T.C. Tayum for overseeing the arrival of four such tanks in Arunachal Pradesh, with a total of eight to be displayed across the state,” he said.

“These tanks, which once roared in battle, will now inspire the spirit of patriotism and nationalism among the people, especially the youth,” Khandu added.

At Jairampur World War II Cemetery, the chief minister paid his respects to Rifleman Lamtu Tikhak, a courageous son of Wintong village in Changlang District, by laying a wreath.

Rifleman Tikhak exemplified valour and dedication to the nation. He fought heroically in the 1962 India-China War, endured captivity as a prisoner of war in Lhasa, and continued his service with unmatched resilience after his release.

He also played a crucial role in the 1965 Indo-Pak War, earning the prestigious Raksha Medal for his bravery.

“He made the ultimate sacrifice, breathing his last on duty on 14th July 1967, but his legacy and courage remain immortal in our hearts. Let us always remember and honor the sacrifices of such heroes who devoted their lives to safeguarding our nation,” Khandu said.
