Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh’s Civil Aviation Minister, Balo Raja, flagged off the first-ever outbound air cargo service from Donyi Polo Airport on Thursday.
This new service, themed “Empowering Farmers, Connecting Markets,” is a significant step to boost the state’s agri-horticultural economy.
The initiative will create new opportunities for local farmers by ensuring their produce reaches national markets more quickly.
“Today, I had the privilege to flag off the first outbound air cargo from our state at Donyi Polo Airport. This initiative will open new horizons for our hardworking farmers,” Raja said in a post on X.
Officials in the state civil aviation department said the cargo service is expected to primarily cater to perishable items such as fruits, vegetables, flowers and other local produce, which often suffer losses due to lack of quick transportation.
The facility, they said, would not only reduce wastage but also enable better price realisation for farmers in remote districts.
The minister also inspected the upcoming terminal building at the Donyi Polo Airport.
“Also, visited the new terminal building of the Donyi Polo airport and reviewed its progress. The terminal, with a capacity to accommodate over 400 passengers, will be dedicated to the people on 2nd September 2025,” he said.
Earlier, Raja said that IndiGo Airlines will be operating additional daily non-stop flights between Delhi and Itanagar from September 17.
He added that the enhanced air link will boost tourism, trade, and ease of travel, further integrating Arunachal with the rest of the country.
