Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Secretary Manish Kumar Gupta on Wednesday chaired a high-level review meeting to assess security preparedness and administrative arrangements for the pre-feasibility report (PFR) activities of the strategic Siang Upper Multi-Purpose Project (SUMP).
Officials said the meeting focused on ensuring smooth progress of the project through close coordination among all stakeholders.
During the review, Gupta stressed that the Siang Upper Multi-Purpose Project is of critical importance to both Arunachal Pradesh and the country and is being monitored at the highest level. He directed all concerned departments to adopt a focused and coordinated approach while carrying out PFR-related activities on the ground.
The meeting was attended by Hydropower Commissioner Sonam Chombay, Director General of Police Anand Mohan, and the deputy commissioners and superintendents of police of Siang and Upper Siang districts. Officials said detailed discussions were held on issues related to security, logistics and inter-departmental coordination.
The chief secretary also underlined the need for systematic village-level outreach to disseminate accurate and factual information about the project. He said transparent communication is essential to address local concerns and build trust among affected communities.
An action plan with clearly defined responsibilities and timelines was finalised to address key issues identified during the review meeting.
The Siang Upper Multi-Purpose Project is envisaged as a major hydropower and river management initiative on the Siang River. Apart from power generation, the project is designed to play a significant role in flood moderation by regulating river flow during peak monsoon periods, thereby reducing downstream flood intensity.
