Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh has been placed on high alert as the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) warns of intensified monsoon activity over the next five days, including widespread rain, thunderstorms, and the potential for hail and flash floods in several districts.
A fresh IMD bulletin issued Tuesday forecasts a surge in rainfall across the state, particularly in East Kameng, Namsai, Lohit, and Papum Pare, which have been placed under a yellow alert through midweek.
Hailstorms are likely in East Kameng, while West Kameng and Upper Subansiri are expected to receive heavy showers.
Rainfall is also likely across a broad swathe of the state, with scattered thunderstorms forecast in Siang, Kurung Kumey, and Tawang.
Meanwhile, fairly widespread rain is predicted in districts such as Namsai, West Siang, and East Kameng, with fluctuating intensity through the week.
Weather conditions are expected to worsen by August 7, when Changlang and Longding in the eastern region come under an orange alert, signalling the likelihood of thunderstorms with heavy rainfall.
On August 8, the monsoon is set to intensify in western and southeastern areas, including West Kameng, Papum Pare, and Lohit, which could face heavy to very heavy downpours.

The rain belt is likely to shift slightly eastward by August 9, bringing continued precipitation to Changlang, Namsai, and Longding.
Authorities have urged residents in low-lying and landslide-prone zones to remain alert and adhere to official advisories.
The state’s disaster management agencies are monitoring the situation closely, as risks of flash floods, landslides, and waterlogging rise with the sustained rainfall.
