ITANAGAR: India’s one of the toughest mountain running events—Tawang Marathon— is inviting runners from around the world to experience a thrilling high-altitude adventure on October 24 in Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh.

The mega event at the “Land of Rising Sun” also coincides with the UN Flag Day, signifying a run for global peace in ongoing turbulent times.

The eagerly-awaited event has in store bonanza of prizes worth Rs 60 lakh – thrice to that of the first edition in 2023.

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu was the first person to register for the marathon after announcing it on July 4.

Registration is open now on the official website, www.tawangmarathon.com, which launched on July 10.

Runners from across India would join to create history by running at 9,000 feet altitude.

The caring and hospitable local tribe Monpas, Indian Army and Tawang district administration are making all possible arrangements for the event with the spirit of ‘Atithee Devo Bhava’.

The largest among the Northeastern states – Arunachal Pradesh – has taken the initiative to organise the event jointly with the Indian Army.

The state aims to make its annual marathon a memorable and inspiring event for runners from across India.

By blending sportsmanship and camaraderie with the local community, the event will showcase the region’s unique challenges and the incredible resilience of its people.

The Indian Army will also participate in large numbers, adding to the competitive spirit and festive atmosphere.

Tabos – the mascot – eagerly awaits and the marathoners alike for yet another celebratory run in the Himalayas during the festive season.

Three promo runs have already been held at New Delhi, Meghalaya’s state capital Shillong and Assam’s Guwahati.

Information stalls were organized at Telangana’s Hyderabad and Maharashtra’s Satara to spread awareness for the run.

A YouTube channel will soon be launched for real-time updates.

Besides, the ace and mainstream marathoners, the armed forces’ runners will also participate in large numbers, offering healthy competition amidst celebrations.

The rock solid civil-military synergy at Tawang – a testimony to the bond between the Indian Army and Tawang’s local populace – will be on display for the world to witness the camaraderie.

Campaigns through various platforms have been set into motion to reach out to the marathoners inviting the best-in-class runners to avail of this rare opportunity.
