Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Police have dismissed rumours circulating about the distribution of strawberry-flavoured “meth candy” among schoolchildren, urging parents and the public to disregard related social media claims.
In an official statement, Capital Superintendent of Police Rohit Rajbir Singh confirmed that reports suggesting the presence of a narcotic known as “strawberry meth” or “strawberry quick” being handed out to children in candy form are unfounded.
Singh explained that these rumours are part of an old internet hoax first seen in the United States in 2007.
He emphasised that agencies such as the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) have consistently stated that there is no credible evidence supporting the existence or distribution of methamphetamine in such flavoured forms targeting minors.
The Superintendent urged parents and the community to remain alert but cautioned against sharing unverified information.
He advised reporting any suspicious activity to school authorities or law enforcement rather than fuelling unproven rumours.
