Arunachal poised to drive India’s energy future: Vice President Dhankhar

Dhankhar highlighted the state’s vast hydropower resources, emphasising its ability to attract investments worth Rs. 5 lakh crore

Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh has the potential to generate 50,000 MW of hydropower, a key to shaping India’s energy future, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar said during his visit to the state on Wednesday.

Addressing a gathering at the Nyokum Yullo festival of the Nyishi tribe in Boasimla, Kamle district, Dhankhar highlighted the state’s vast hydropower resources, emphasising its ability to attract investments worth Rs. 5 lakh crore.

He described Arunachal Pradesh as central to India’s goal of becoming a global leader in sustainable energy.

The Vice President also underscored the role of cultural festivals like Nyokum Yullo in preserving the heritage and identity of tribal communities.

He praised Arunachal Pradesh for balancing development with its rich cultural traditions.

During his visit, Dhankhar inaugurated a state-of-the-art multipurpose indoor hall in Boasimla and honoured Kabak Yano, the first woman from the Nyishi community to scale Mount Everest.

Accompanied by Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju, Dhankhar lauded India’s rapid progress as the fastest-growing economy, citing advancements in infrastructure, economic reforms, and social welfare programs.

As part of the celebrations, Dhankhar actively participated in the traditional Rikham Pada dance, showcasing solidarity with the Nyishi community.

His visit reaffirmed Arunachal Pradesh’s pivotal role in India’s cultural and economic growth narratives.
