Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Women and Child Development Minister Dasanglu Pul has condemned the shocking case of child abuse reported in the state’s Lower Dibang Valley district, calling it a grave violation of child rights.

During a high-level meeting in Roing on Saturday, she reaffirmed the state government’s unwavering commitment to ensuring justice and safeguarding children from such atrocities.

The incident involved the reported sexual abuse of at least eight minor girls in a private school in Roing by a 19-year-old migrant labourer from Assam.

The youth, identified as Riaz-Ul Kurim from Bongaigaon, was initially taken into police custody after allegations surfaced.

However, public outrage escalated into mob violence — Kurim was forcibly taken from police custody, assaulted multiple times, and later succumbed to his injuries.

Minister Pul met with key child welfare officials, including members of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), and the Child Development Project Officer (CDPO), to assess the situation and coordinate the government’s response.

“My heart aches for the victims and their families. This is a moment for us to unite and ensure justice is not only delivered but seen to be done. No child should ever suffer in silence,” she said.

In light of the incident, Pul also highlighted the recent cabinet decision to implement the ‘Support Person’ provision under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

This initiative is designed to provide child victims with critical emotional and procedural support throughout police investigations and court proceedings.

“Children who endure such trauma often feel frightened and alone. Through this initiative, we are making sure they are never without guidance or compassion as they seek justice,” the minister added.
