Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt Gen (Retd) K T Parnaik has highlighted the need for a balanced approach to managing defence land in the state, emphasizing the importance of addressing national security requirements alongside the well-being of local communities and environmental considerations.
During a meeting with S N Gupta, Principal Director of Defence Estates under Eastern Command Kolkata, at Raj Bhavan, the Governor stressed the importance of reforms and collaboration to optimize land use.
He suggested that efficient management and strengthened communication between civil and military authorities could ensure robust defence infrastructure while fostering positive relations with citizens.
The Governor urged the defence authorities to prioritize infrastructure development without compromising military needs, according to a communique from Raj Bhavan.
He underlined the importance of fair and transparent procedures in land acquisitions and hiring, ensuring legal compliance and diligence in coordination with the state administration.
“Collaboration between civil and military authorities can help balance defence requirements with local development needs, and improved communication with local administrations can enhance civil-military relations,” Parnaik said.
S N Gupta briefed the Governor on various issues related to defence land in Arunachal Pradesh.
Defence Estates Director K V Nagi Reddy and Defence Estate Officer Koli Akash Santosh also attended the meeting, contributing insights into the challenges and opportunities in managing defence lands in the region.
The Governor’s remarks come amid growing discussions on the use of defence land across the country, focusing on maximizing utility while maintaining harmony with local populations.
