Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh’s Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein visited the 2880-MW Dibang power project site on Sunday, assessing its progress and potential to significantly enhance the state’s energy infrastructure and stimulate economic growth.

The project, located near Dambuk in the Lower Dibang Valley district, is poised to harness the state’s immense hydropower resources, Mein stated.

“This project is a clear example of what can be achieved through persistence and teamwork,” said Mein during his visit.

He emphasised that under the leadership of Chief Minister Pema Khandu, the state government has successfully revived stalled projects, transferring them to Central Public Sector Undertakings (CPSUs) for accelerated development.

Mein acknowledged the vital contributions of local communities and the youth in driving the project forward, calling their involvement crucial to its success.

“This is not just an energy project—it’s an opportunity generator. It will spur economic growth, boost tourism, and enhance connectivity, benefiting the people of Arunachal Pradesh for years to come,” he said.

The deputy chief minister also highlighted plans for improved infrastructure linked to the project, including a boating route from the dam site to Anini, the Dibang Valley district headquarters, and a bypass road connecting Roing, Pasighat, and Gerukamukh in Assam.

These developments aim to facilitate the transportation of construction materials and ease the movement of heavy vehicles.

During the visit, Mein inaugurated a new police station building at Dambuk and laid the foundation for the ‘Conservation of Bongal Yapgo War Memorial Heritage’ project.

The Bongal Yapgo, a 19th-century stone wall built by the Adi (Padams) tribe, commemorates the 1894 Anglo-Abor War, where Adi warriors courageously resisted British colonial forces.
