ITANAGAR: Chief Minister Pema Khandu and four other BJP candidates are poised to secure victory in the upcoming Assembly elections as no opposing candidates have filed nominations from their respective constituencies on the final day of filing papers.
The four BJP candidates slated to win uncontested are Jikke Tako from Tali, Nyato Dukom from Taliha, Ratu Techi from Sagalee, and Mutchu Mithi from Roing.
The development occurred after Congress nominees and other contenders withdrew their candidatures on Wednesday, paving the way for a smooth electoral triumph for the BJP leaders.
Speaking to a national news agency, Khandu expressed optimism about the electoral landscape, stating, “Single nomination paper has been filed in five assembly constituencies. We hope that a few more seats will be added by the last day of withdrawal.”
This victory marks the Chief Minister’s fourth consecutive term as MLA, having previously clinched victory thrice uncontested.
He is contesting from the Mukto constituency in Tawang district.
Heartfelt congratulations poured in from various quarters, with cabinet ministers extending their wishes to the Chief Minister.
Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein conveyed his heartfelt felicitations, highlighting that the path to a fully developed Arunachal is further reinforced with the election of the four BJP candidates unopposed.
“My heartiest congratulations and best wishes to all of them for a successful tenure towards elevating our state to greater heights,” Mein expressed in a series of social media posts.
Notably, the BJP has fielded candidates across all 60 Assembly seats in Arunachal Pradesh, while the opposition Congress and National People’s Party (NPP) have nominated 34 and 29 candidates, respectively.
Additionally, the NCP and the Peoples’ Party of Arunachal (PPA) have put forward 17 and two candidates for the assembly polls.
The Assembly elections in Arunachal Pradesh are slated to coincide with the Lok Sabha polls.
