ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Monday highlighted the critical need to empower municipalities to function and prosper autonomously.
In a meeting with Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC) mayor Tamme Phassang, who visited him at the civil secretariat, Khandu outlined his ambitious plans to strengthen urban local bodies.
The discussion revolved around enhancing urban development and fostering self-sufficiency within municipalities, according to a statement released after the meeting.

The chief minister emphasised the necessity for robust infrastructure, innovative approaches, and active governance to ensure sustainable urban growth.
He also assured Phassang of his support in addressing the challenges faced by the IMC.
Khandu commended Phassang for his dedication to advancing municipal projects, describing it as an important step in tackling the city’s urgent issues.

Wishing the IMC a successful New Year, Khandu expressed his optimism for a prosperous 2025 and reiterated his commitment to the ongoing development and welfare of the people.
Earlier, Phassang acknowledged the chief minister’s visionary leadership and continued support, stressing the importance of a strong collaboration between the state government and municipal authorities to bring about significant changes.
He also briefed Khandu about the various concerns of the IMC that require government attention.
