Arunachal Pradesh BJP hits back at Congress over criticism of PM Modi’s Itanagar rally

Itanagar: The Arunachal Pradesh unit of the BJP on Tuesday strongly rebutted the opposition Congress’s criticism of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rally in the state capital, terming it a politically motivated attempt to undermine what it called a “historic event.”

The state Congress had alleged that the Prime Minister used the official programme to glorify himself and turn it into a BJP election campaign, instead of addressing pressing concerns such as unemployment and inadequate health infrastructure.

In a statement, the BJP dismissed the allegations as “misleading and false,” noting that Modi laid the foundation stones for development projects worth over Rs 5,100 crore during his visit.

The party accused the Congress of leaving behind a “legacy of failure, corruption, and neglect” despite ruling the state for decades. It alleged that successive Congress governments failed to provide even basic road connectivity, jobs, quality healthcare, or education, and lacked the political will to strengthen border infrastructure, claiming they remained “fearful of China.”

By contrast, the BJP asserted that its government has brought “transformational changes” to the state, citing progress in digital connectivity, education, healthcare, and border area development.

Rejecting the Congress’s charges of misuse of government machinery and coercion of state employees to attend the rally, the BJP said such allegations only reflected Congress’s “own past record of political misuse of power.”

The statement further underlined that while the Congress now tries to claim credit for Arunachal Pradesh’s milestones, it was the BJP that raised crucial constitutional issues such as strengthening Article 371(H) and advocating the inclusion of the state under the Sixth Schedule.

“The people of Arunachal Pradesh are now seeing real results on the ground, not just promises,” the BJP said.
