At least 14 people from Tinsukia district in Assam have died and seven others are missing after the truck they were travelling in plunged into a gorge in Arunachal Pradesh, officials confirmed on Thursday.
The accident occurred earlier this week on the Hayuliang–Chaglagam Road in Anjaw district, in the eastern part of the state.
According to Tinsukia District Commissioner Swapneel Paul, the authorities received reports of the incident around 11 am.
He said the district administration immediately contacted the Anjaw and Teju authorities to verify the situation.
Preliminary reports indicate that the vehicle lost control while negotiating a narrow and steep bend on the mountainous border road, approximately 40 km from Chaglagam.

Investigations are underway to determine whether overspeeding or the poor condition of the road contributed to the accident.
Local residents were the first to reach the site and provide assistance, after which the police, disaster response teams, and the Indian Army’s Spear Corps joined in the rescue and recovery operations.
Multiple teams have been deployed to navigate the remote and difficult terrain.
Authorities said search operations for the seven missing passengers are ongoing.
The steep and treacherous landscape has made the rescue efforts particularly challenging, but teams remain on-site to continue their work.
