ITANAGAR: A 10-year-old girl, reportedly sold for Rs. 2 lakh, was rescued from a residence in Itanagar during a coordinated operation by the police forces of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.
The rescue mission, carried out on Friday, was jointly executed by personnel from Tinsukia Police Station in Assam and the Itanagar Women Police Station.
According to Capital Superintendent of Police (SP) Rohit Rajbir Singh, the child was found in the home of a woman identified as Chello Aaw in the Lobby area of Itanagar.
The rescued minor was immediately taken for medical evaluation, where doctors confirmed her stable condition, SP Singh noted in an official statement.
Preliminary investigations revealed a troubling backstory involving the sale of two young girls, allegedly by their aunt.

While one has been safely rescued, efforts are ongoing to locate and recover the second girl.
This case is a stark reminder of the persistent threat of child trafficking in the region.
In July last year, authorities uncovered an interstate child trafficking and prostitution racket targeting vulnerable minors from the northeastern states, particularly Arunachal Pradesh.
That operation led to the rescue of two minor girls and the arrest of five individuals in Arunachal Pradesh and Delhi.
Police remain vigilant in their efforts to combat child trafficking, emphasising the need for community awareness and collaboration to protect vulnerable children and dismantle trafficking networks.
