SHILLONG: The Meghalaya government has been grappling with the setback of local candidates struggling to crack the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examination.

To address this challenge and support aspirants in cracking one of the country’s toughest exams, the Directorate of School Education & Literacy has launched a novel initiative.

Under the guidance of Swapnil Tembe, the Director of School Education & Literacy and a 2015 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, an innovative programme has been introduced to aid UPSC aspirants.

Tembe has taken to live-streaming his lectures on UPSC preparation techniques and strategies for other competitive exams.

Additionally, he has also curated a 10-episode series available online, offering valuable insights into cracking the civil service examinations.

Highlighting the importance of early preparation for the Civil Service Examination, Tembe stressed on the significance of consistent newspaper reading, note-taking, and diligent study habits.

He highlighted the UPSC exam’s comprehensive nature, referring to it as the “mother of all exams” and asserting that success in this endeavour can pave the way for triumph in other competitive exams.

Addressing the financial constraints faced by many aspiring candidates, Tembe underscored the accessibility of self-preparation methods, advocating for a grassroots approach to exam readiness.

Responding to queries regarding the low participation of Meghalaya youths in such competitive examinations, Tembe attributed it to a lack of confidence and perceived difficulty among students.

Earlier on April 23, Meghalaya Education Minister Rakkam Sangma expressed concern over the state’s candidates’ inability to clear the Civil Services Examination conducted by the UPSC.

Sangma highlighted the absence of successful candidates from the state this year, terming it “unfortunate” and signalling a wakeup call for all stakeholders.

Stressing the pivotal role of Civil Services Officers in shaping the state’s future, Sangma urged young people to cultivate self-motivation and seize opportunities for growth and development.
