GUWAHATI: As the curtains draw on another electrifying season of Indian Super League (ISL) action, the Highlander Brigade, the supporter club of Northeast United FC, braces itself for an offseason filled with passion, fervour, and football fever.

Among the highlights are the much-anticipated 2nd edition of the Ao Sangma Shield football tournament, set to kick off in collaboration with the Assam Football Association on May 2.

Named after legendary figures Dr Talimeren Ao and Gilbertson Sangma, the success of last year’s event has spurred plans for an even grander spectacle this year, with increased prize money and wider community involvement.

Additionally, the club will host the All Assam Amateur Community Futsal Tournament, featuring a thrilling knockout format with 16 teams battling it out in 5-a-side matches.

Moreover, football enthusiasts can mark their calendars for the 5th edition of the HB E-football tournament, scheduled to take place from May 5 to 7.

“We invite all football enthusiasts to join us in these exciting tournaments,” remarked Abhishek Lahkar, President of Highlander Brigade, extending an open invitation for participation.

Interested individuals can connect with Highlander Brigade through their website (https://www.highlanderbrigade.com/) or social media channels.

Founded as a supporters’ club of Northeast United FC, Highlander Brigade represents a collective of students and professionals united in their passion for football and support for their beloved club.

Abhishek said that the club’s mission is to revolutionise fan culture in the region, transforming passive spectators into fervent supporters and advocates for football in the Northeast.

Vikas Baruah, founding member and current Advisory Committee member of Highlander Brigade, shed light on the club’s funding model, highlighting their status as an independent and non-profit entity.

Contributions from members, along with profits from events, are reinvested into club activities aimed at promoting football and fan culture in the region.

Pratyush Bhattacharyya, student and field team leader of Highlander Brigade, highlighted the club’s recent achievements, including the unveiling of Asia’s largest handmade tifo during a Northeast United match.

He also underscored the club’s commitment to social causes, such as aiding flood victims and promoting sports personalities such as Mirabai Chanu through wall graffiti.

As the countdown begins to the offseason football extravaganza, Highlander Brigade stands poised to ignite the passion for football and inspire the next generation of players and supporters across the Northeast.
