GUWAHATI: Assam down town University embraced the spirit of scientific inquiry and innovation as it celebrated World Laboratory Day on Tuesday.
Acknowledging the essential role of laboratories in shaping scientific progress and societal transformation under the theme, “The Future Is Lab: Embrace Innovation”, the university organised a commemorative event to mark the day.
The event was attended by Prof Dr Ashok Puranik, Executive Director of AIIMS Guwahati, serving as the Chief Guest.
Spearheaded by the Programme of Medical Laboratory Technology under the Faculty of Paramedical Sciences, the event commenced with an inaugural ceremony graced by Dr NC Talukdar, the Vice Chancellor of the University.
Distinguished guest speakers, Dr Chenjei Konyak and Dr L. Sundareswaran, delivered insightful talks on topics pertinent to the future of medical laboratories, highlighting equitable access to healthcare innovations and the evolving landscape of laboratory practices.
In addition to enriching discussions, the event featured engaging activities such as essay and scientific poster competitions, providing students with a platform to showcase their talent and creativity.
The winners were felicitated for their exemplary contributions to the field of paramedical sciences, receiving certificates and cash prizes in recognition of their achievements.
Also present were Dr PC Sharma, Chairperson of the Faculty of Paramedical Sciences, and Dr Abhijit Dutta, Dean of the Faculty of Paramedical Sciences.
Dr Dutta and Shila Kumari Singh, Associate Dean of the Institute of Paramedical Sciences, alongside the Medical Laboratory Technology department, played instrumental roles in orchestrating the success of the event.
World Laboratory Day, observed annually on April 23, serves as a tribute to the contributions of laboratories in advancing scientific knowledge, fostering innovation, and delivering quality healthcare services.
The occasion not only celebrated the past achievements of laboratories but also fostered a collaborative environment for students and faculty members to interact with experts.
