GUWAHATI: In a remarkable feat for the Assamese cinema, Mini, a movie shedding light on the tea tribes and the 200-year-old tea industry in Assam, was screened at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on Monday.

This historic screening marked the film as the first-ever Assamese film to be showcased at the prestigious venue.

The event, held at Rashtrapati Bhavan, was graced by the esteemed presence of the President of India Droupadi Murmu, along with the cast and crew of the film.

Taking to social media platforms, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma extended his heartfelt wishes to the filmmakers, applauding their efforts in elevating the stature of the Assamese film industry.

He also expressed his hopes for their continued success in future endeavours.

Pankaj Mahanta, the producer of Mini, expressed his elation at the overwhelming response to the film from President Murmu.

He conveyed his gratitude for the opportunity to showcase the movie at Rashtrapati Bhavan and acknowledged Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal for facilitating this remarkable opportunity.

Mini delves into the poignant narrative of the challenges and struggles faced by the tea tribes of Assam.

Released in theatres across the state on February 23, the film portrays the hardships and triumphs of the tea community in the Sadri language, a dialect prevalent among the tea tribes.

Produced under the banner of PM Associates and directed by Arunjeet Borah, Mini features a stellar cast including Urmila Mahanta, Boloram Das, Pankaj Mahanta, and several other seasoned actors.

Notably, the screening at Rashtrapati Bhavan saw the presence of the film’s key personalities, adding to the significance of this historic moment for Assamese cinema.
