ITANAGAR: Ten BJP legislators, including Chief Minister Pema Khandu and his Deputy Chowna Mein, have emerged victorious unopposed in the Arunachal Pradesh Assembly elections.

Among the prominent figures securing uncontested victories in the Assembly polls are Ratu Techi from Sagalee, Jikke Tako from Tali, Nyato Dukam from Taliha, Mutchu Mithi from Roing, Hage Appa from Ziro Hapoli, Techi Kaso from Itanagar, Dongru Siongju from Bomdila, and Dasanglu Pul from Hayuliang.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu’s uncontested win in the Mukto assembly constituency underscores the BJP’s stronghold in the region, while first-time contender Techi Rotu’s lone nomination in Sagalee reflects the party’s growing influence.

In Tali, Jikke Tako secured a second term unopposed, joined by Nyato Dukam in Taliha, Upper Subansiri, further consolidating the BJP’s presence. Meanwhile, Mutchu Mithi’s uncontested victory in Roing, following his recent alignment with the BJP, adds another feather to the party’s cap.

The conclusion of the nomination filing on March 27 marked a significant moment in Arunachal’s political scene, with the BJP fielding candidates for all 60 Assembly constituencies.

Scheduled for April 19, the assembly polls in the Northeastern state are poised to be a significant event.

The BJP’s ascent in Arunachal Pradesh has been remarkable, having secured 41 seats in the 2019 state elections.

Subsequently, seven MLAs from various other parties, including the Janata Dal-United, joined the saffron party, further bolstering its position.

Chief Minister Khandu’s journey from forming a BJP-led government in 2016 after defecting from the Congress to the People’s Party of Arunachal, to spearheading the BJP’s first elected government in the state in 2019, reflects the party’s growing influence in the state.

The recent defections of two National People’s Party (NPP) members and three Congress MLAs to the BJP camp further underscore the shifting political dynamics in Arunachal Pradesh.
