GUWAHATI: Assam will observe a two-day holiday on account of Holi and Dol Utsav celebrations on March 25 and 26.

In light of the upcoming festivities, March 25 has already been declared a state holiday in Assam in honour of Holi and on Thursday, the General Administration Department (GAD) issued a notification stating that all government offices and educational institutions within the Kamrup (M) district will remain closed on March 26.

“The Governor of Assam is pleased to declare a Local holiday on 26th March 2024 within the jurisdiction of Kamrup (Metro) district on account of the Dol Jatra (Holi) Festival. All State Govt. Offices, and educational institutions within Kamrup (Metro) district will remain closed on 26th March 2024 on account of this holiday,” read the official notification.

According to the notification, financial institutions operating within the district under the Negotiable Instruments (NI) Act will also observe a holiday on March 26.

Furthermore, the notification highlighted that financial institutions within the Kamrup (Metro) district, governed by Section 25 of the N.I. Act, 1881, along with relevant regulations outlined by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, will also observe closure on the day.

Dol Purnima, also referred to as Dol Jatra, Dol Utsav, or Deul, holds great significance in Hindu culture and is celebrated with immense enthusiasm in multiple regions of India.

From Braj and Rajasthan to Gujarat, Odisha, Assam, Tripura, and Bengal, this festival coincides with Holi and pays homage to the revered divine couple, Radha and Krishna. Traditionally, it features colourful swings and joyous festivities.
