GUWAHATI: A senior police officer, holding the position of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) at the Police Training College in Dergaon, stands accused of heinous crimes against a 15-year-old girl.
The girl, who had been employed as a domestic help at DSP Kiran Nath’s residence, has alleged that she was subjected to torture and rape by the DSP and his family members, the local press reported on Monday.
According to the victim’s harrowing account, Nath not only confined her forcefully but also subjected her to repeated acts of sexual assault, causing immense physical and psychological trauma.
The allegations have led to Nath’s arrest on Sunday evening under sections 376 (rape of a female under sixteen years), 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), and Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO), 2012.
Reportedly, the victim’s family lodged a First Information Report (FIR) at the Dergaon police station in Golaghat district, prompting swift action from law enforcement authorities.
Director General of Police (DGP) for Assam, Gyanendra Pratap Singh, took to social media to confirm the arrest.
“Reference allegations of sexual misconduct towards the housemaid by a DSP posted at LBPA Dergaon – Case No 42 under section 376,506 of IPC and Section 6 of POCSO Act has been registered at Dergaon PS, District Golaghat,” Singh posted, underlining the gravity of the situation.
Stressing further on Assam Police’s commitment to a zero-tolerance policy against sexual misconduct, Singh said that “sexual misconduct amongst police personnel remains corner stone of the policy of Assam Police.
