Interactive session in Guwahati addresses young women’s public space issues

GUWAHATI: The Pragjyotish College Women’s Study Centre, in collaboration with Pedal for a Change and ESAF Foundation, came together to commemorate International Women’s Day 2024 recently.

The event, held with enthusiasm and purpose, aimed to amplify the voices of young women and address their concerns regarding public spaces and mobility in Guwahati.

Arshel Akhter, the Bicycle Mayor of Guwahati and Co-Founder of Pedal for a Change, led a presentation and interactive session centred around the theme “Concerns and Aspirations of Young Women regarding Public Spaces and Mobility in Guwahati”.

His insights and expertise provided valuable perspectives on fostering safer and more inclusive urban environments.

Sabrina Iqbal Sircar, General Secretary of the Women’s Study Centre, shouldered the responsibility of anchoring the event.

Alongside her, esteemed guests including Dr Manoj Kumar Mahanta, Principal of Pragjyotish College, Vice Principal Shampa Chowdhury, and Dr Reena Barman Kalita, President of the Women’s Study Centre, graced the occasion with their presence.

The event garnered significant participation, with over 100 students actively engaging in discussions and sharing their viewpoints.

Additionally, the programme featured captivating performances by talented students of the college, adding a touch of creativity and expression to the celebration.

By providing a platform for dialogue and reflection, the college’s Women’s Study Centre, demonstrated their commitment to empowering women and fostering meaningful conversations on issues vital to their empowerment and well-being.
