SHILLONG: Amidst the political buzz surrounding the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Tura, All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) leader Mukul Sangma has hinted at his party’s eagerness to contest, pending approval from the INDIA Bloc.
Sangma, while speaking to a Shillong-based daily, expressed optimism about fielding a candidate for the Tura seat, highlighting the importance of cooperation among Bloc members.
“The party is ready to contest, awaiting a nod from the INDIA Bloc. We expect collaborative efforts from all Bloc parties,” he was quoted as saying.
While not ruling out the possibility of proposing himself as a candidate, Sangma underscored his current focus on state affairs and addressing governance issues.
The dynamics of seat-sharing have added intrigue to the electoral landscape, with the TMC initially proposing collaboration with the Congress, only to face rejection.
The Congress, in turn, suggested Gambegre MLA Saleng A Sangma for the Tura seat and sitting Lok Sabha member Vincent H Pala for Shillong, awaiting the high command’s approval.
In addition to the AITC and Congress, NPP’s incumbent Lok Sabha member Agatha Sangma has announced her candidacy for the Tura seat, while the BJP is yet to nominate its candidates for both parliamentary constituencies.
As anticipation builds and political alliances take shape, Tura braces itself for a closely contested electoral battle, with parties vying for supremacy and voters keenly observing the unfolding drama.
